Tanabata (“Evening of the seventh”) is a Japanese (originally - Chinese) star festival. It celebrates the meeting of Orihime (Vega) and Hikoboshi (Altair), which live on the different banks of Amanogava (Milky Way, lit. “heavenly river”), and they are allowed to meet only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh month.
