My Neighbor Totoro has a darker backstory than what the movie leads on.

In the movie, the main character is looking for her missing sister. She doesn’t know that her sister is actually dead. Her sister’s killer? Totoro.

The Neko Bus that you see in the movie is equivalent to The Grim Reaper’s boat taking souls to the other side.

If you didn’t know this by now, I’m sorry if this upset you at all. Just remember that Miyazaki is Japan’s Walt Disney. Disney was a dark man, too.
